If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll now I’m a MASSIVE juicing fan and have been for 11+ years. My mum is hugely into juicing so that is where the inspiration came from and for my 18th birthday, my main present was a juicer, which was the best gift I could have asked for as it got me experimenting from a young age. When I have friends round for brunch, I feel like a bit of a mixologist (minus the alcohol), and just love experimenting with the most odd pairings of vegetable, herb and fruit combinations and finding a blend that tastes awesome and makes you feel a-ma-z-i-n-g just moments afterwards.
When you’re new to juicing you will want to strike a balance between taste and health. You won’t want to go too hardcore to begin with and too vegetable-heavy as vegetable juice, especially from greens is an acquired taste and you will find that it is a lot more bitter than your traditional 100% fruit juice so you might not like it at first, but trust me you’ll learn to LOVE it and be totally addicted (in a healthy way). It just takes time for your taste buds to be re-tuned as preferentially, we’re predisposed to love sweeter things because sweet = safe and bitter = potential poison in our hunter gatherer days when we were still working out which herbs and mushrooms etc. were ‘safe’ and which ones we should steer clear of!
This recipe has a great balance of health with the natural high nutrition and water content in celery and cucumber, which makes the juice a very hydrating choice, coupled with the natural sweetness of apples and carrots. The green cucumber peel is excellent for you, but peel it if it’s not organic as pesticides and nasties accumulate here so you’ll want to minise this toxin exposure.
Top tip: Chop all your veggies and fruit into juicer friendly sized pieces before you turn your juicer on as this will make the process much quicker for you so you don’t have to start/stop the juicer when you get going. I always line my veggies up side by side, chop them into three of four pieces, and then transfer the fruit and veg into a big bowl so I’m good to go.
This is my favourite breakfast juice at the moment and it was one of the first juice combinations my mum made for me when she introduced me to juicing over 11 years ago!
I hope you LOVE it.
Wishing you health in abundance.
