What to buy a foodie for Christmas?

Dec 16, 2014

Here are some simple gift ideas for anyone wanting to embrace a healthy lifestyle or for anyone that is looking for gift inspiration for an already converted foodie.

I have included a variety of differently priced items to cater for little stocking filler ideas through to larger gifts but they’re all items that are really useful that I personally adore. Some of these are on my own personal Christmas wish list, so friends, family, take note 😉 but others I already have and use everyday and couldn’t be without them. They make food prep so much more enjoyable and time efficient.

I use these peelers almost everyday. The orange blade cuts your veggies into thin strips julienne-style which I use to make courgetti or to peel carrots for a salad, the green blade de-skins soft fruits like kiwis and plums, removing very little flesh and the red blade is double edged, so if you move it back and forth on your vegetables then it peels the veggies into a long continuous strip which I use for making cucumber strips for salads. This gadget is perfect for getting more creative with vegetable textures and shapes and making courgetti pasta if you don’t have the space for an all singing all dancing spiralizer! You can buy the peelers here.

This is on my list for Santa this year! In 2015 you’re going to be seeing lots of recipes with beans and pulses as they’re so good for you and can spruce up a salad and add warmth to it to make it into a winter salad or they can form the base of soups and stews! To do this quickly, from scratch, requires a pressure cooker…unless you have a lot of time on your hands (!) as it allows you to make a week’s supply of legumes in under half an hour.

Home-cooked beans are an entirely different species compared to the canned versions, and cheaper too ☺ so if you’re a Jessipes follower, then a pressure cooker may be a great purchase so you can cook up some of the winter warmers coming your way. You can buy a pressure cooker here.

Making a packed lunch is such an amazing step if you want to conquer being healthy and being in pocket at the end of the month. This lunchbox has different compartments so you can put your dressing in a separate container and dress your salad just before you eat it for maximum freshness or you can take all the compartments out and enjoy a stew or a curry at lunch as the box is water tight, saving the other compartments for a snack for a mid afternoon pick me up. I can’t wait to make my packed lunches using these in the New Year and they come in different colours so you can get one for all the members of your household and there’ll be no confusion over who’s is who’s! You can buy the lunchboxes here.

Getting rid of stress with an amazing massage can be one of the best experiences of your life. If you lead a sedentary job then it’s likely that you have accumulated tension in your lower back and your shoulders so a full body massage can help to relieve those pressure points, which you probably didn’t know you had. If you’re into your fitness, then a massage can help prevent future injuries and help you to push your body further so you get the most out of your workouts. A massage is just the best gift ever!

I discovered this gorgeous glass water bottle from Grip & Go a few months ago and am totally obsessed. It has made me drink so much more water on the go and it’s much more environmentally friendly compared to plastic bottles. Health-wise, it’s better for you too as it is BPA-free so it’s perfect for those who are looking to clean up their kitchenware! It comes in two different sizes: a 500ml size and a 1 litre bottle and various colours. I use the 1L one during the day and just have a huge handbag to fit it in (!) but either are great!

You know you’re turning into a foodie and health lover when you’re asking for a steamer for Christmas! This any pot steamer allows you to add your veggies to a simmering saucepan of water and steam your veggies gently, which ensures more nutrients are maintained. They’re amazingly easy to use and you can be boiling something else in the saucepan at the same time so it’s a great hob space saver!

Hand blenders allow you to quickly mix up homemade pestos, sauces, finely chop your herbs and give soups a final zap to give them a smoother consistency. They’re a very handy gadget to have in your kitchen, especially if you get that comes with a separate compartment, commonly called a “chopper”, to allow you to chop herbs and onions without food flying everywhere!

The chemical PFOA, also known as Teflon is used to make many non stick pans but it is highly carcinogenic and is also linked to thyroid & fertility problems. If you’re spending a lot of time and effort making sure what you put into your mouth is healthy and free of nasties then investing in a good set of clean cookware is super important to ensure you don’t get chemicals or metals leaching off your pans and into your food.

Le Creuset and Pyrex dishes are my favourites. Pyrex dishes are affordable and durable but anything Le Creuset will be a lifelong kitchen friend so worth the investment, and they come in all sorts of lovely colours so they’ll look pretty in your kitchen!

It’s free and every week your friend or loved one will enjoy a deliciously healthy recipe and they will learn some of my top health tips and simple to implement nutritional recommendations straight from my brain, into their inbox. It’s the perfect gift for anyone wishing to learn more about nutrition in manageable chunks and increase their recipe repertoire and it’s free!

So I hope this list helps you with some of your Christmas shopping and it even helps you make your own Christmas list. You’ll use these kitchen gadgets all the time so they’ll be one of the best investments you can make for your health and really help to shape up your healthstyle.

All the healthy best,
